New surplus storage site will free up space on University Hospital’s 11th floor.

Published May 26th, 2020

A 7,200-square-foot pre-engineered steel warehouse being constructed in the southmost portion of USA Health University Hospital property is expected to be complete in about eight weeks, freeing up space currently being used for storage on the hospital’s 11th floor.

“The roof and wall structural members are being installed, with exterior roof and wall panels to start shortly, and concrete is to be poured for the truck dock entrance ramp,” said Lawrence Gardner, director of facilities management at University Hospital. “Contractors will be installing light fixtures, and heating and air conditioning systems as well as fire protection after the roof has been completed.”

When complete, the warehouse will become the main long-term surplus storage site for University Hospital, freeing up much-needed space on the 11th floor for a future project.

Also, the bid process has been initiated on a project to add 75 additional parking spaces surrounding the warehouse, Gardner said. The additional parking areas are expected to be completed by August if the design engineering for storm-water detention meets existing regulations.
