The gastroenterology department at USA Health is expanding its staff with the addition of Chad Collins, MHA, who recently was named business director. Collins brings more than a decade of healthcare and military leadership experience to the newly created position.

Collins will handle administrative responsibilities and the day-to-day operations of USA Health’s gastroenterology physician practice, including the digestive health program spanning clinic, inpatient and outpatient endoscopy, and inpatient GI consultation services at University Hospital.

A native of Baldwin County, Collins joined USA Health in 2019 as director of Revenue Cycle PSS. In May 2020, he transitioned to the role of director of IT Programming and Biomedical Support. With a focus on patient-centered care, Collins said his goals for the new position include continuing to improve patient flow, expanding access and volume through provider recruitment and ensuring the educational component continues to thrive to give fellows a quality training experience.

“Working in an academic health system puts you at the forefront of ground-breaking research and innovation,” Collins said. “As someone who loves the business and operations of healthcare, it’s so rewarding to work with some of the brightest minds in the industry and to have the opportunity to influence advancements in healthcare that will impact individuals and communities across the world as our medical students and non-clinical administrators venture out into their careers.”

Before joining USA Health, he worked in Dallas for companies including Tenet Health and Texas Health Resources. From 2010 until 2018, Collins served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Faulkner University in Montgomery and a master’s in healthcare administration from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

Collins serves on the boards of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Alabama Chapter, and the National Association of Health Services Executives, Alabama Chapter. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
