USA Health’s A Night Honoring Healers set for Nov. 18 to honor patients, healers

For every person who seeks care at USA Health, the academic health system for the University of South Alabama, as many as 100 team members can be involved in helping that patient recover and thrive.

Honoring those employees is the purpose of USA Health’s signature event, A Night Honoring Healers. The evening supports USA Health and is proudly presented through the generous sponsorship of the USA Foundation. This year’s celebration will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center. Proceeds will benefit the academic health system's three-part mission of patient care, education, and research.

“We are incredibly proud of the compassionate care our healthcare team members provide every patient who walks through our doors,” said Natalie Fox, DNP, interim CEO of USA Health. “They are often unsung heroes, quietly working behind the scenes to do everything from stabilizing and treating patients to sterilizing equipment, ensuring all safety protocols are followed for the best possible outcomes.”

Stephanie A. Bryan, Tribal Chair and CEO of the Poarch Creek Indians, is the Honorary Chair of A Night Honoring Healers. She underscored her Tribe's commitment to the event and to USA Health saying, “It is vitally important that we support the efforts of these healthcare heroes who work tirelessly to meet the medical needs of the most vulnerable among us. As the region's only academic health system, USA Health provides healing and hope to thousands of patients every year. We are blessed to be able to support this pivotally important piece of our state's healthcare system and hope that many others will also lend their support to this wonderful event and to USA Health in the months and years ahead."

In 2017, USA Health began recognizing its healthcare heroes, including those in the community who contribute to patient care, during an annual ceremony. In past years, USA Health has featured many patients, including a man with Parkinson’s disease who underwent deep brain stimulation to slow tremors in his hand, and a woman who battled and beat stage 2 breast cancer. In each case, numerous healers were honored for providing their care. During the evening, guests will hear the inspiring stories of two patients and how they received life-changing care at USA Health. Each of the many team members involved in the patients’ path to healing, from physicians and nurses to techs and social workers, will be recognized with a medal for providing exceptional, compassionate care.
