Labor & Delivery
We are proud to offer moms with evidence-based tools to make their experience as comfortable as possible.
Your Experience in Labor & Delivery
Arrival
When you arrive at USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital, enter through our front lobby. You will be directed to the Obstetrics and Gynecologic Evaluation Center.
Visitors

You may have up to four caregivers at the bedside in Labor & Delivery. One caregiver is allowed in the Labor & Delivery Operating Room during a cesarean section.
Vaginal Delivery
Vaginal births deliver in one of our Labor/Delivery/Recovery Suites. After delivery, you can keep your baby with you or allow them to go to the nursery for routine newborn evaluations. Family members can be in the room with you. After delivery, you will remain in your room for recovery and be monitored for approximately two hours. Once we have determined that you are stable, you will be transferred to one of the postpartum rooms in our Mother/Baby Unit.
Cesarean Section
Mothers requiring cesarean sections will deliver in an operating room located within Labor & Delivery. We can plan a “gentle” C-section, with music, hushed voices, lavender essential oil fragrance, and a clear drape, so you can view the birthing process. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team attends all C-sections to provide any needs that your baby may have at delivery. After surgery, you will be transferred to a recovery area to be closely monitored for approximately two hours. Once we have determined that you are stable, you will be transferred to one of the postpartum rooms in our Mother/Baby Unit.

Supportive Labor
We are proud to offer moms with evidence-based tools to make their experience as comfortable as possible. We provide wireless monitors, nitrous oxide for pain relief, and even a Comfort Cart with options for customizing the lighting, sounds and scents in their Birthing Suite.
Many of our nurses are certified by Spinning Babies®, a program that promotes vaginal delivery through a physiological approach that makes childbirth easier for moms and their babies. Our facility is also doula friendly. Please talk with your provider if you would like a doula at your childbirth, so they can meet beforehand and discuss your birth plan with you.

Your Care Team
We have OB/GYN physicians and anesthesia team members in-house 24/7, with high-risk specialists always available in house or on call.
Your team at Children's & Women's Hospital also will include skilled nurses with certifications including Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB), Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Delivery Care Nurses
Your care team also includes Delivery Care RNs, who have newborn training and provide care following birth by assisting mom with skin-to-skin, breastfeeding, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the newborn. Our goal is to keep newborns with their mothers to begin their bonding and to give our mothers a great birth experience.

Neonatal Intensive Care
Children's & Women's Hospital is home to the area’s only Level III neonatal intensive care unit, which offers the most advanced care for premature and critically ill newborns. Infants in our NICU are cared for around the clock by an expert team of neonatologists, nurses, educators, therapists and other staff.
