About Luanda P. Grazette, M.D., M.P.H., FACC
A native of Alabama, Dr. Grazette completed undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, then completed medical school and earned a master’s degree in public health at Harvard University. In Boston, she finished a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by subspecialty training in cardiovascular medicine at Emory University. She returned to Massachusetts General for additional training in heart failure and transplantation.
As an NIH-funded physician-scientist, Dr. Grazette investigated the mechanism of cardiotoxicity of trastuzumabi and imanitinib mesylate. She left Massachusetts General to continue this research at Amgen Inc., where, as a global medical director, she had oversight of clinical development and acquisitions of successful drugs Repatha and Omecantiv Mecarbil.
Desiring to return to direct patient care she left Amgen in 2010 to join the faculty of the University of Southern California, where she served as co-director of Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy for 10 years. In addition, Dr. Grazette initiated a successful heart failure research program, which enables her active mentorship of students, residents, and fellows. She joined the University of Miami in 2020 as director of Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Failure Recovery and Therapeutic Innovation.
As division chief of cardiology at USA Health, Dr. Grazette has the opportunity to continue to mentor and educate the next generation of healthcare providers as a proven researcher and clinician.
