The multidisciplinary team was selected for a competitive travel grant to attend the event, which shared the latest advancements in cardiogenic shock management.

USA Health was represented at the 8th annual Houston Shock Symposium in Houston, Texas, after being selected to receive a competitive travel grant supporting participation in this nationally recognized educational event.
The multidisciplinary team from USA Health included Carmen Morehead, manager of quality and performance improvement at University Hospital; Leean Rodolfich, nurse manager of the neuro surgical intensive care unit at University Hospital; Mohammed Elzeneini, M.D., an interventional cardiologist and assistant professor of internal medicine at the Whiddon College of Medicine; Christopher Kinnard, M.D., FACS, a trauma and critical care surgeon and associate professor of surgery; and Luanda Grazette, M.D., MPH, FACC, a cardiology and heart failure specialist, professor, and division chief of cardiology. Together, the group represented a broad range of expertise required to effectively manage cardiogenic shock.
As part of the symposium, the team participated in an immersive experience focused on developing and strengthening collaborative shock care programs. The session combined hands-on training — including advanced techniques in intra-aortic balloon pump placement, Impella support, and ECMO cannulation — with interactive discussions on building, implementing, and sustaining high-performing shock teams.
The Houston Shock Symposium brought together more than 2,000 national and international experts to share the latest advancements in cardiogenic shock management.
