Tyler C. McDonald, M.D., FAAOS, chief of pediatric orthopaedic surgery at USA Health, presented a grand rounds lecture April 7 to the UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Birmingham.

McDonald presents talk on patient-reported outcomes measures

The presentation, titled “Measuring What Matters: Integrating Patient-Reported Outcomes into Pediatric Orthopaedics,” explored the evolution of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) as essential tools for enhancing individual patient care.

“We discussed the historical journey of outcomes tracking to where we are in the modern healthcare landscape and specifically addressed the unique challenges of implementing these measures in a pediatric setting,” McDonald said. “Ultimately, the talk emphasized how systematically capturing the patient’s voice can enhance shared decision-making and improve the overall value of orthopaedic care.”

McDonald also serves as medical director of the Children’s Surgery Verification (CSV) program at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

Benjamin Estrada tapped to lead USA Health pediatrics

“The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families is what has always inspired me, and it is the people of pediatrics who have shown me what that commitment looks like every day. Their example has reinforced an enduring truth: our purpose extends beyond individual accomplishments because we are united by a mission far greater than ourselves.”, said Benjamin Estrada, M.D.
