USA Health recently added Cesar Moreno, M.D., to its Division of Gastroenterology, where he will provide comprehensive digestive disease care while helping educate the next generation of physicians.

Moreno specializes in gastroenterology with clinical interests in inflammatory bowel disease and clinical nutrition. He is also interested in applying artificial intelligence to improve clinical efficiency, enhance patient safety and support high-quality patient care.
Born in Peru and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Moreno earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Florida before receiving his medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency, served as chief resident and then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at USA Health.
Moreno said gastroenterology appealed to him because it allows physicians to care for patients in several different ways, from performing procedures to managing complex chronic diseases.
"I was drawn to gastroenterology because it combines procedural skill, complex problem-solving and long-term patient relationships," he said. "I value the ability to make an immediate impact through procedures while also helping patients manage chronic conditions over time."
After completing his residency, chief residency and fellowship at USA Health, Moreno said joining the faculty was a natural next step.
"I enjoy the collaborative environment of academic medicine and the opportunity to spend meaningful time with patients while helping train the next generation of physicians," he said. "Staying on as faculty allows me to continue developing my clinical interests while remaining close to my wife's hometown of Pensacola, making USA Health the right fit for both my career and our family."
Throughout his training, Moreno demonstrated a commitment to leadership, quality improvement and physician well-being. He served as chief resident for the Department of Internal Medicine, chaired the USA Health House Staff Quality and Safety Council, and was a member of both the USA Graduate Medical Education Well-being Subcommittee and the House Staff Emerging Academy of Leaders coordinated by UT Southwestern Medical Center, helping advance initiatives focused on patient safety, resident wellness and leadership development.
His commitment to service extends beyond the hospital. Moreno volunteered with the FSUCares Program, providing health screenings for homeless individuals and migrant workers, mentored students pursuing careers in medicine through the Argo-Noles Medical Mentors Program, supported patients and families through Covenant Hospice's Ambassador Program, and advised underrepresented students pursuing graduate education through the McNair Scholars Program.
Moreno has been recognized throughout his career for academic excellence and leadership. His honors include the USA Internal Medicine Victor Benator Award, Internal Medicine Intern of the Year, appointment as chief resident and the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, awarded nationally to outstanding graduate researchers.
He is an active member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians. In addition to his clinical work, Moreno has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations focused on gastroenterology.
Moreno, who is fluent in Spanish, is accepting new patients at the USA Health Digestive Health Center located at 75 South University Blvd, Suite 6000-B in Mobile. To schedule an appointment, call 251-660-5555.
