Visit an interactive escape room to test your knowledge about sepsis Sept. 13-14 in the University Hospital café conference room.

Published Aug 30th, 2022

To highlight the importance of timely and efficient sepsis treatment, University Hospital is hosting an interactive event for clinical staff Sept. 13-14. Participants will work through an escape room activity as a team while learning about evidence-based sepsis treatment.

Sept. 13 is World Sepsis Day, which aims to raise awareness of sepsis, the leading cause of death in hospitals and the No. 1 cause of hospital readmissions. Sepsis is a life-threatening illness caused by the body’s response to an infection.

“The key to preventing death or long-term effects related to sepsis is early, evidence-based treatment,” said Carmen Morehead, M.S.N., R.N., C.N.L., quality and performance improvement coordinator for University Hospital. “We are inviting all clinical staff – including physicians, residents and nurses -- to take a break to answer the challenge: Can you escape sepsis?”

The escape room activity will be set up in the University Hospital café conference room alongside Mobtown Nutrition on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from noon to 2 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 2-4 p.m. Continuing education credits are available for participants.

In addition to earning CEUs, every participant will be eligible to enter a drawing for prizes, including gift cards to local shops and eateries, gas cards and Jaguar football tickets (including parking passes). Also, the unit with the most participation will win an hour of pet therapy with Millie, the therapy dog.
