General Housing Resources

Mulherin Custodial Home
Offers 24-hour, 365-days-a-year residential care, serving a wide range of disabilities. It stands as the only residential facility in Mobile catering to such a varied degree of disability. Mulherin Custodial Home also provides respite services for community individuals, offering families a "break" or temporary housing for their loved ones.

Housing First
Offers housing programs to assist families with children, unaccompanied youth (18-24 years old), chronically homeless individuals, and homeless individuals and families with a disability, including unaccompanied individuals. Supportive Services for Veteran Families aids low-income veteran families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Emergency shelter for unaccompanied women 18 years or older, serving Mobile, Washington, and Baldwin counties.

Waterfront Rescue Mission (Men)
Offers beds to program clients and overnight guests. Non-program guests may stay each month with a $10 co-pay. Bad weather nights and five holiday nights are available at no cost to those without income.

Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama: Dauphin Way Lodge (Men)
Emergency shelter for seven nights every two months.

Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama: Family Haven
Serves single-parent families and two-parent families with children. Parent must be at least 19 years old.

Family Promise of Coastal Alabama
Serves single-parent, dual-parent, and multi-generational families. Must be 21 years or older with at least one dependent child under the age of 18. Call for more information. A phone assessment is required, and additional steps may include an in-person interview, background check, and drug screening.

Taking it By Force Women’s Weekend Shelter
A weekend emergency shelter for women with or without children. Only for Friday and Saturday nights.

Penelope House
Helps victims of intimate partner violence to gain social and economic independence through shelter, counseling, advocacy, and referral to community resources and agencies in Mobile, Washington, Choctaw, and Clarke counties in Alabama. The shelter can provide refuge for victims and their children when their lives are in imminent danger.

Day Shelters

Waterfront Rescue Mission
Operates Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Available to men, women and children. Provides a warm meal, meeting with a chaplain, restroom facilities, clothing requests, and connecting to resources.

Transitional Housing

Wesley Dumas Community Center: Sybil Smith Family Village (Women)
Serves single women and women with children experiencing homelessness. Must be at least 24 years old, homeless or fleeing domestic violence, able to work and/or attend school, drug and alcohol free, and willing to participate in a case management plan.

Alabama Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries
Provides mothers and their children transitional housing while she gains or maintains employment, saves money, receives counseling, and learns life skills such as budgeting and healthy parenting techniques.

Mary’s Shelter (Women)
Serves Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia counties in Alabama and Santa Rosa and Escambia counties in Florida. Provides shelter and support for women who are homeless and pregnant.
