About Troy M. Sofinowski, M.D.

Troy M. Sofinowski, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained urologist who specializes in the management and surgical treatment of complex kidney stone disease and enlarged prostates (BPH), including laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP and ThuLEP).

Dr. Sofinowski earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine and completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He then spent more than a decade in community and rural practice, first in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and later across rural Kentucky and southern Illinois, where the procedures that would have helped his patients most were the ones no one nearby was trained to perform.

That experience brought him back to academic medicine. As the inaugural endourology fellow at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, he trained in advanced surgical techniques for treating complex kidney and bladder stones and enlarged prostates. He joined the USA Health University Urology in 2026, where he cares for patients, teaches medical students and residents, and works to expand access to urologic care across the Gulf Coast.

Born in Augsburg, Germany, to a military family, Dr. Sofinowski grew up in the port town of Dundalk, Maryland, a working-class neighborhood of Baltimore, and is glad to be back in a coastal town. He spends time with his wife and four dogs and plays guitar when he isn't in the operating room.
