Emily McGowin, DNP, AG-ACNP, BC

Emily McGowin, DNP, AGACNP-BC, is a trauma nurse practitioner in the Department of Surgery and has served at USA Health University Hospital, the region’s only ACS-verified Level I trauma center, since 2011. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, she worked as a bedside nurse in the surgical-trauma intensive care unit at University Hospital for six years. McGowin earned her Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in adult-gerontological acute care, from the University of South Alabama in 2017, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from USA in 2020. Further research interests include care of the critically ill trauma patient and quality improvement in the surgical trauma intensive care unit. In addition to clinical practice, she works with the USA College of Nursing to mentor and serve as a preceptor to nurse practitioner students in didactic and clinical instruction.
