About Daniel P. Suarez, M.D.
Dr. Daniel Suarez is an assistant professor within the Department of Surgery and serves as a trauma surgeon within the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery at USA Health University Hospital, home to the region’s only Level 1 trauma center.
Dr. Suarez came to USA Health in 2026 from Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois, where he served as an acute care general surgeon, trauma surgeon and critical care physician. While there, he received awards including the Faculty of the Year award for his contributions to the general surgery residency program and the Excellence in Professionalism award, which recognized him as a model of professionalism by general surgery residents.
Board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, Dr. Suarez earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, where he also completed residency training in general surgery. At SUNY, he received the Chief Resident Teaching Award, the Highest Senior ABSITE Score and Excellence in Hernia Repair Award. He was also recognized for Excellence in Trauma Care.
Dr. Suarez completed his fellowship in surgical critical care from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
