USA Health, the academic health system for the University of South Alabama, recently welcomed Usha Yendrapalli, M.D., to its team of pulmonary and critical care physicians.

Usha Yendrapalli, M.D.

Yendrapalli joins USA Health after completing a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at USA Health. She previously completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Huntsville Regional Campus and worked as a hospitalist at Huntsville Hospital, where she cared for a diverse patient population and managed complex medical conditions.

“My experience as a hospitalist allowed me to care for a diverse patient population and strengthened my clinical decision-making skills while reinforcing my passion for managing complex medical illnesses,” Yendrapalli said. “Wanting to further develop my expertise in caring for patients with respiratory diseases and critical illness ultimately led me to pursue fellowship training.”

Board-certified in internal medicine, Yendrapalli has developed expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and the care of critically ill patients. Her academic interests are reflected in a growing body of research and publications focused on pulmonary, cardiovascular and critical care medicine.

“What drew me to pulmonary and critical care medicine is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact during some of the most challenging moments in a patient's life,” she said. “I enjoy the balance between caring for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit and building long-term relationships with patients who have chronic pulmonary conditions.”

As part of an academic health system, Yendrapalli will provide patient care while contributing to the education and training of future healthcare providers. She will serve as an assistant professor in the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama.

“I chose to practice in an academic health system because I value collaboration, teaching and lifelong learning,” she said. “Academic medicine creates an environment where physicians continually learn from one another while contributing to the education of future healthcare professionals. I believe this ultimately leads to better care for patients and stronger healthcare systems.”

Throughout her career, Yendrapalli has been recognized for her commitment to education, receiving the Teacher Blazer Award for Outstanding Teaching of Medical Students and Residents, and has remained actively involved in research, community service and professional organizations. During her pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship, Yendrapalli was honored with the Best Research Symposium Award for her outstanding work in quality improvement and research.

“I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to beginning this next chapter at USA Health,” she said.

Yendrapalli is accepting new patients at the Mastin Internal Medicine Clinic, 2451 University Hospital Drive, Suite 102, in Mobile. To schedule an appointment, call 251-470-5890.

“The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families is what has always inspired me, and it is the people of pediatrics who have shown me what that commitment looks like every day. Their example has reinforced an enduring truth: our purpose extends beyond individual accomplishments because we are united by a mission far greater than ourselves.”, said Benjamin Estrada, M.D.
