Mohammed Elzeneini, M.D., an interventional cardiologist and renowned researcher, recently joined USA Health Cardiology, where he brings a strong academic focus and advanced cardiovascular care to heart patients across the Gulf Coast.

“For me, cardiology represents an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives,” he said. “I treat every patient as I would a family member, and I work with each patient to tailor therapy based on their unique risk profile, symptoms, and personal goals. Every patient is different, and I strive to provide each one with the time, attention, and resources they deserve.”

Elzeneini, who will serve as an assistant professor of internal medicine in the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama, is an academic interventional cardiologist with specialized expertise in complex percutaneous coronary intervention, structural heart disease, and advanced cardiovascular imaging.

He cares for patients with a wide range of conditions, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic stenosis requiring transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), congestive heart failure, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, and hypertensive heart disease. His clinical interests also include stroke prevention procedures, such as left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, as well as preventive cardiology.

“My clinical practice focuses on treating patients with complex coronary artery disease and structural heart disease,” he said. He was drawn to interventional cardiology by its diversity and meaningful impact on patients’ lives. “The diversity of cardiovascular pathology, the breadth of advanced imaging and diagnostic and interventional tools, the analytical decision-making involved, and the often immediate clinical impact all make the field deeply rewarding.”

A graduate of Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, Elzeneini completed medical school, cardiology residency, and a master’s degree in cardiovascular sciences before continuing his training in the United States. He completed his internal medicine residency, cardiovascular disease fellowship, and interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he also served in leadership and educator roles.

His extensive training is complemented by multiple board certifications, including in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiovascular computed tomography.

In addition to his clinical work, Elzeneini is an active cardiovascular outcomes researcher whose work focuses on improving procedural strategies and outcomes in high-risk patient populations. ‘’My research centers on procedural outcomes in high-risk populations to improve patient risk stratification, clinical decision-making, and procedural strategy selection and optimization,” he said. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and reflects a commitment to evidence-based care and continuous improvement in cardiovascular medicine.

“I chose to practice in an academic health system because it fosters an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and close multidisciplinary collaboration to deliver high-quality cardiovascular care,” he said. “I value the academic culture that provides the time, resources, and team-based approach necessary to care for diverse patient populations and manage complex cardiovascular disease, while advancing evidence-based clinical practice.”

Fluent in English, Arabic, and French, Elzeneini is accepting patients at USA Health Cardiology, located at 6300 USA Health Blvd., in Mobile. To schedule an appointment, call 251-873-6280.
