Her passion for stroke care is deeply personal. In her 20s, Mackey survived multiple strokes caused by moyamoya disease, and she has turned her diagnosis into a purpose. As a registered nurse and stroke program coordinator, she brings a unique and powerful perspective to patient care that combines clinical expertise with lived experience to support stroke survivors and their families.
Through patient education, support programs and advocacy efforts, Mackey walks alongside patients during some of their most challenging moments, helping them understand recovery is possible and that they are not alone. Her work reflects the very mission of the Stroke Hero Awards, which recognizes individuals making a meaningful impact on stroke awareness, education, and community engagement nationwide.
