When USA Health’s Chaplain Kim Crawford Meeks initiated a call for more spiritual literature and resources for patients, family members and employees, she never dreamed so many people would respond so quickly. She started the initiative a few months ago and has already received more than 1,000 Bibles and other resources from donors across Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.
Meeks requested donations of Bibles of various translations, journals, devotionals, and spiritual and emotional support resources. These resources were selected from the department’s Amazon wish list, which was created a year ago.
“The outpouring of love from all over Alabama and Mississippi for resources for the Spiritual Health and Counseling Department has been an amazing experience,” said Meeks. “Giving for spiritual and emotional support helps the recipients and also fulfills a desire within donors to show others that we care about their overall wellbeing and hope.”
The donors – both individuals and businesses – have come from as far away as St. Clair County, Alabama, and include the St. Clair County VFW, American Legion, Rotary, Ragland Public Library, Pell City Library, and First Baptist Church in Fairhope. Judy Batson, founder of Amazing Grace Farms and owner of Healing Touch Ministries, assisted in collecting some 700 Bibles in St. Clair County for the cause.
USA Health is still accepting new donations. The more donations the department receives, the more people will benefit, Meeks said.
