Rachel Seaman, M.D., internal medicine physician and a chief quality officer for USA Health, has been named chief medical officer for USA Health University Hospital.
In her new role, Seaman will partner with University Hospital CEO Josh Snow, MSHA, to provide clinical leadership and oversight, establish evidence-based practices, and collaborate with clinical chairs, service line leaders, nursing leadership and operational leaders to continue to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
“Since joining USA Health, Dr. Seaman has demonstrated her leadership in the department of internal medicine as well as a passion for performance improvement and quality,” said Michael Chang, M.D., system chief medical officer for USA Health and associate vice president for medical affairs. “She has also been instrumental in implementing operational and administrative initiatives that have helped to move USA Health on its journey toward becoming a high-reliability organization."
In addition, she will oversee regulatory compliance and accreditation, medical staff affairs, physician engagement, and strategic and operational alignment at University Hospital, an acute-care facility that is part of USA Health, the academic health system for the University of South Alabama.
“I am honored and humbled to step into this role at University Hospital,” said Seaman, who also serves as an associate professor of internal medicine at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine. “Every day I am inspired by the dedication and compassion of our teams. It’s a privilege to work alongside such talented colleagues as we strive to provide the highest quality of care to our patients and support the health of our communities.”
With almost 2,800 employees, University Hospital serves as the major referral center for southwest Alabama, southeast Mississippi and portions of northwest Florida. It is also home to the region’s only Level I trauma center.
Seaman will continue to serve as a chief quality officer for USA Health, a position she has held since 2023. She joined USA Health in 2013.
She earned her medical degree from the Whiddon College of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine at USA Health. Throughout her career at USA Health, she has held multiple leadership roles, including division chief of hospital medicine and associate program director for the internal medicine residency program. In recognition of her leadership, professional excellence and dedication to the Mobile Bay community, she was named to Mobile Bay Magazine’s 2024 Class of 40 Under 40.
