USA Health pediatrician Katrina Roberson-Trammell wins state award

Because of her longtime efforts on behalf of children’s health, USA Health pediatrician Katrina Roberson-Trammell, M.D., was the 2026 recipient of the Marsha Raulerson Advocacy Award, which was recently presented at the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AL-AAP) annual meeting.
Trammell, a graduate of the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama, and USA Health’s pediatric residency program, has devoted her professional career to advocating for the health and well-being of children throughout the region.
“Her contributions have included caring for children in USA Health’s Pediatric Complex Care Clinic, leading regional initiatives to improve pediatric services and care coordination and demonstrating an unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality care for every patient she encounters,” said Benjamin Estrada, M.D., FAAP, FPIDS, professor and chair of pediatrics at the Whiddon College of Medicine. “She serves as a role model for our trainees and remains steadfast in her mission to advance pediatric care. We are deeply grateful for her longstanding commitment to the values and purpose of our department and for the enduring impact she has made on the children, families, and communities we serve.”
In 2020, Trammell was a recipient of the inaugural Mobile Community Health Leadership Awards from the Mobile Medical Museum, recognizing community excellence in healthcare. An associate professor of pediatrics at the Whiddon College of Medicine, she teaches and supervises medical students, nurse practitioner students, and physician assistant students. The board-certified pediatrician also sees patients at USA Health Pediatrics in Semmes.
She is the former medical director for several regional Medicaid programs, including the Alabama Coordinated Health Network and Gulf Coast TotalCare. Known affectionately by her patients as "Dr. T.," Trammell uses community platforms to discuss topics such as childhood obesity, adolescent health issues, the doctor-patient relationship, preventive screenings and well-child visits. She is also a state liaison coordinating communication between pediatricians and school nurses.
The Marsha Raulerson Advocacy Award is presented to a pediatrician member of the AL-AAP in recognition of steadfast service to children beyond the usual scope of practice through strong and faithful dedication to better policies for improved child health at the local, state, and national levels. Created in 2011, the award is named in honor of Marsha Raulerson, M.D., FAAP, of Brewton, who has worked tirelessly for children in Alabama during her more than 30 years of practicing community pediatrics through consistent and effective advocacy for children’s programs and policies at the local, state and national levels.
