Candice Powers, M.B.A., CRCR, CRCA, USA Health’s chief revenue officer, was elected to one of 11 regional Executive 3 positions nationwide in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).

Candice Powers also was awarded the AL HFMA Wanda James Certification Award.

“As a volunteer for HFMA for the past 15 years, I have received received far more than I have contributed or could ever contribute,” Powers said. “I am humbled by the recognition and the trust that the five-state region, as well as the state chapter of Alabama, has placed in me.”

The Alabama Chapter of HFMA announced her election to this three-year role, which supports Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina, at its annual conference in Gulf Shores in June. In this key volunteer leadership role, Powers will provide assistance to these state chapters on programming, membership and future development in coordination with the national association.

“Because of her excellent strategic thinking, communication and leadership skills, Candi will be an asset to Region 5 as well as the association,” said Bill Casey, HFMA senior vice president, member experience and business development. “As a member of the Regional Executive Council, she will provide guidance on timely issues affecting not only HFMA’s chapters but also healthcare management throughout the region.”

In her role at USA Health, Powers oversees revenue cycle operations for Children’s & Women’s Hospital, University Hospital, and Providence Hospital. She received her M.B.A. from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, in 2011.

“Primarily an educational organization, HFMA is becoming a more trusted voice for improving the business of healthcare and helping organizations become financially viable and sustainable in ever more difficult circumstances,” she said. “This organization has made me a better leader, and I hope to contribute to the development of future leaders in the space.”

Powers is a past president of the South Carolina HFMA and has served in most of the leadership roles available at the state level within HFMA between South Carolina and West Virginia. She is the recipient of the Lucille P. Craft Award, the Ruth H. Nicholson Award, the M. Al Turner Past President’s Award, and the Medal of Honor through HFMA.

During the 2024 annual meeting, she also was awarded the AL HFMA Wanda James Certification Award, which recognizes an outstanding volunteer who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to professional growth, including earning HFMA certification(s) and continued participation in ongoing chapter and other education-related activities.

Named in honor of Wanda James, a distinguished healthcare leader known for her dedication to professional development and for being instrumental in the growth of educational opportunities within AL HFMA, this award highlights efforts in promoting HFMA certifications, mentoring members, and enhancing the overall value that can be provided through HFMA membership.

“Candice exemplifies these qualities as a certified member of AL HFMA, regular educational speaker at HFMA events, and most recently elected as the Region 5 Region Executive 3,” said Roze Seale, 2023-24 AL HFMA president.

Powers said she is grateful to work for USA Health, an organization that not only recognizes the importance of revenue cycle on the patient experience but also is constantly investing in strategies to improve performance while keeping the patient in the center of the equation.

“USA Health is an excellent organization invested in performance improvement, and this award and nomination are a reflection of how that is instilled in their employees,” she said. “I am honored to serve as a representative of this organization.”
