Families are encouraged to plan trick-or-treating before dark when visibility is better and traffic is lighter. Setting up a meeting place in case of separation and reviewing safety rules beforehand can also help ensure a fun and safe evening.

Advisory councils such as the one at Children’s & Women’s Hospital promote effective and respectful partnerships among patients, families, and clinical staff members while increasing understanding and cooperation among those groups.
“Hypertension is the single largest contributor to death and affects about 50% of U.S. adults,” said Julie Groom, MSHA, BSN, RN, director of cardiology at USA Health Providence Hospital. “Of the adults that are aware of their hypertension, about 80% do not have it under control. This gives patients an additional option to help control high blood pressure.”
W. Johnson Hardy III, M.D., is the first fellowship-trained vascular surgeon employed at USA Health, the health system for the University of South Alabama. He is one of five surgeons who recently returned to Mobile and USA Health after completing advanced fellowship training.
Justin Ellerman, M.D., completed his internal medicine residency and chief year at the USA Health, where he discovered a passion for academic medicine and mentoring future physicians. His motivation for joining USA Health is twofold: a commitment to patient-centered innovation and a love of teaching.
The multidisciplinary event offered attendees a full day of learning focused on the latest advances in treatment and nursing care. The conference theme celebrated the essential role nurses play in every aspect of patient care, from managing hospital stays to guiding families through long-term treatment plans.
In September, Jess Mullens, M.D., of USA Health, and Steven Theiss, M.D., of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, met with members of the U.S. congressional delegation from Alabama to discuss issues related to the field of orthopaedics.
