USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital is planning a Child Safety Day on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf, bringing together families, community partners, and safety experts for a hands-on event focused on keeping kids safe.
The day will feature a wide range of interactive activities and demonstrations, including water and boating safety education, boat tours, emergency vehicle tours, e-bike and scooter safety, and museum admission discounts, among others. Numerous local agencies will also be on site to share safety information with children and their caregivers.
Life jackets will be distributed to children who attend, while supplies last.
“The museum’s focus on life on the water makes it an ideal place for highlighting water and boating safety as part of a broader child safety effort,” said Courtney Thomson, RN-NIC, who is coordinating the event for Children’s & Women’s Hospital. “Its interactive exhibits and maritime themes help reinforce practical safety lessons in a way that truly resonates with children and families.”
Located downtown on the Mobile River, the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf will offer discounted admissions during the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 30. Visitors can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free special. The museum brings the history and culture of the Gulf to life through interactive exhibits and real-world experiences, exploring how the Gulf shapes daily life along the coast — from shipping and trade to fishing, recreation, and environmental stewardship.
“Partnering with USA Health for its first Child Safety Day in Mobile is an exciting opportunity to bring our Gulf expertise to a broader mission — and to be part of something that truly matters for families across our community,” said Karen Poth, executive director of the museum.
The academic health system for the University of South Alabama, USA Health designed Child Safety Day to empower families with knowledge, skills, and resources to help prevent injuries and promote healthy, safe environments for children at home and in the community. In April, Children's & Women's Hospital also held a Child Safety Day at the Spanish Fort Community Center.
