Healthcare professionals, students, EMS personnel, and community leaders are invited to register for the 15th Annual Gulf Coast Trauma Symposium, set for March 24-25 at the Golden Nugget Biloxi Hotel & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Participants will hear from nationally recognized speakers, participate in interactive sessions covering all aspects of trauma care, and network with peers and stakeholders from across the region.

Highlights on the first day will include “Journey to ACS Verification,” “Disaster Preparedness for Category 5 Hurricane, Airplane Crash and Chemical Spill,” “Following a Patient from Scene to Discharge,” and “The Role of ECMO in Trauma Patients.”

The topics are particularly timely for USA Health. In October, USA Health University Hospital was verified as a Level I trauma center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), becoming the first ACS-verified center in south Alabama. Earlier this year, USA Health Providence Hospital began offering Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), the first to provide the lifesaving care in southwest Alabama.

The William A.L. Mitchell Lectureship will be presented by Kenji Inaba, M.D., FACS, vice chair of the Department of Surgery and chief of the Division of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California. Inaba will present “Los Angeles 2028, Active Shooter at a Mass Gathering Event Preparation.”

The John Campbell Lectureship will be presented by Juan Duchesne, M.D., FACS, FCCM, FCC, director of the Level I trauma center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Duchesne will present “Selective Prehospital Advanced Resuscitative Care.”

The symposium is hosted by the USA Health Division of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery and Burns, the Alabama Gulf EMS System, and the Alabama Department of Public Health and the ADPH Office of EMS.
