USA Health Workforce Development recently celebrated its first graduating class of eight students from the surgical technician program. Referred to as “the great eight,” the graduates went through a 12-week education course in the classroom setting followed by 12 weeks of operating room experience.

“This group is deserving of every recognition,” Veronica Hudson, manager of Workforce Development, said. “They are leaders and have gained the knowledge and skill set to help fulfill our mission statement, helping people live longer, better lives.”

Each of the students has accepted positions within the operating rooms at USA Health University Hospital and USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

Ashley Sylvester, an instructor in the program, said, “We are very proud of these eight women for their hard work and dedication to the program.”

Zach Keith and Derek Kent, operating room nurse managers, praised the students and congratulated them on their new endeavors with USA Health.

“The great eight will forever be the standard for this program,” Kent said. “I know we will continue to reference the great eight throughout each of these training classes.”
