John P. Scarbrough, M.D., a lifelong Mobilian and graduate of the University of South Alabama, recently joined Pediatric Associates of Mobile/USA Health, to be part of a team dedicated to helping children thrive physically, emotionally, and socially.

“Being able to serve the families of my hometown is something I feel incredibly fortunate to do,” Scarbrough said. “My path in medicine started right here in Mobile, and it’s truly special to now care for the same community that has shaped who I am.”

His experience working with children predates his medical career. “I’ve worked with kids for as long as I can remember — from leading youth groups at church to working at summer camps,” he said. “Becoming a pediatrician felt like a natural extension of that calling. I love building long-term relationships with families and being part of a child’s journey as they grow and develop.”

Scarbrough graduated from the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at USA, then completed a pediatric residency at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

He is passionate about building long-term relationships with families and creating an environment of trust. “I focus on preventive care and patient education, with an emphasis on making sure both kids and parents feel heard, supported and empowered,” he said.

Scarbrough is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and holds certifications in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program.

Outside of his medical practice, the husband and father enjoys spending time with his wife, Shelby, and their daughter, Annaliese. The couple is expecting their second child soon. They also share their home with two dogs — Skadi, a Doberman, and Mars, an Irish Setter.

“When I’m not at work, I love spending time with my family, playing sports, enjoying the outdoors, and competing in board games and video games with friends,” he said.

Scarbrough is looking forward to continuing his work with families across the Gulf Coast.

“This community means everything to me,” he said. “Being able to give back by caring for its children is the greatest privilege I could ask for.”

Scarbrough is accepting new patients. For an appointment, call 251-344-1502.
