To meet the needs of the internal medicine division, USA Health has added Thomas Coleman, M.D. He will see patients at USA Health Mobile Diagnostic Center.

From the beginning of his college education, working closely with patients became an important factor in Coleman’s drive for internal medicine. “I volunteered at a free medical clinic in college, which helped draw me to primary care when seeing how grateful patients were to the health facility and professionals who worked there and the impact they had,” Coleman said.

Coleman has a particular interest in preventative medicine that allows for healthy lifestyle changes.

“I was drawn to internal medicine because of the broad scope of the field and the ability to develop long-term relationships with patients and help them navigate our complex medical system,” Coleman said. “I enjoy getting to know the patients as a whole and getting to explore many different pathologies, organ systems and how they all fit together.”

A native of Mobile, Coleman earned his medical degree at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at Prisma Health Upstate in Greenville, South Carolina. Shortly after, Coleman served as an internal medicine physician at the Medical Group of the Carolinas in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Coleman said returning to an academic health system is beneficial for both physicians and patients. “Practicing at an academic health system is advantageous because you have colleagues who are at the top of their respective fields and leaders in research that will help your patients optimize their health in the future,” Coleman said.

He is accepting new patients. To make an appointment, call 251-633-8880.
