
Be a Lifesaver: USA Health promotes suicide prevention awareness
By promoting conversations around mental health and sharing tools for support, USA Health emphasizes that everyone can help prevent suicide.
USA Health’s Spiritual Health and Counseling team joined forces with special guests Ms. Senior Alabama 2025, Lori Cox, and Ms. Senior Gulf Shores 2025, June Chappell, to shine a light on the importance of suicide prevention. Dressed as Lifesavers, the group spread messages of hope and encouragement during Be a Lifesaver! Suicide Prevention Day.

The team, led by Chaplain Kim Crawford Meeks, manager of Spiritual Health and Counseling, visited Children’s & Women’s Hospital, University Hospital, Providence Hospital, the Strada Patient Care Center, and the Mitchell Cancer Institute. Alongside chaplains, counselors, nurses, and program coordinators, they distributed Lifesaver candy, 988 hotline information, coping skills resources, and wellness tips to patients, families, and staff.
USA Health team members participating included Chaplain Henry Thomas; Chaplain Owen Drey; Fletcher Eaton, EAP manager; Taylor Hamm, counseling intern; Rene Sprague, MSN, FNP-C, Bridge Program coordinator; Kim Thompson-Yates, M.Ed., Child Life coordinator; Lorie Evans, Child Life activity coordinator; and Ashley Castillow, LICSW, behavioral health coordinator.

The event highlighted the critical role of awareness, connection, and resources in saving lives. By promoting conversations around mental health and sharing tools for support, USA Health emphasizes that everyone can help prevent suicide.
