Center for Healthy Communities hosts medical town hall
The USA Health Center for Healthy Communities partnered with Amity Missionary Baptist Church to host its fifth medical town hall. Ashley Williams, M.D., director of the center, introduced a panel of six health care professionals who fielded questions. Alicia Evans, M.D., a family medicine physician with USA Health, discussed couples’ health, recommended screenings, and fertility concerns. From there, the session shifted to an open Q&A, with attendees asking about a wide range of health topics such as respiratory virus protection, vaccine safety, prostate cancer screenings, family cancer risks, sleep, and self-advocacy in medication use.
In addition to the panel, several community partners, including Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy, the Drug Education Council, and the USA Health Stroke Program, offered resources and information. CHC outreach nurse Annette Bouie provided blood pressure screenings, while Amity’s congregation hosted a clothing giveaway and shared a hot meal. Part of an ongoing collaboration with the Mobile Metropolitan Medical Society, the series continues to strengthen connections between healthcare professionals and the community.
