USA Health celebrates Medical Assistants Recognition Week

Published Oct 22nd, 2019

USA Health is proud to acknowledge the more than 115 medical assistants who work throughout the health system during Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Oct. 21 to 25. Medical Assistants Recognition Day is Oct. 23.

Medical assistants work in a variety of services areas within USA Health. They work alongside doctors and nurses to enhance the patient experience and provide exceptional care.

Madalyn Tina Scott is a medical assistant in the department of surgery at the USA Health Strada Patient Care Center. She said, as a medical assistant, she greets patients as they come in, takes medical information and vital signs, inputs medical data into the computer and assists the doctors and nurses. Medical assistants also set up the trays for the physicians and assist with procedures.

Scott has been a medical assistant for five years, and she joined USA Health in January 2019. She likened her role as a medical assistant to that of a warm-up act – she gets her patients ready to see and talk to the physicians when they come in.

“I enjoy working with people and being able to put a smile on their faces,” she said. “That really makes a difference to them. Medical assistants provide that extra personal connection with the patients. We spend time with them, see what they need, and get them ready to see the doctor.”
