Rives celebrated at retirement reception

Beverly Rives, RN, who served in Gastroenterology for 44 years, was celebrated recently at her retirement reception at University Hospital. Rives graduated from the Providence School of Nursing and, later, the University of South Alabama, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at age 50. Rives’ tenure in nursing spanned a total of 54 years.

Lynne Godwin, DNP, director of endoscopy, said Rives was once her manager. “She is one of the kindest, most special people you will ever meet,” Godwin said. “Her compassion and integrity are so appreciated by all the staff.”


Coss retires after lifetime of service at Providence Hospital

After nearly five decades of dedicated service, Anne England Coss is retiring from USA Health Providence Hospital. Her remarkable journey began as a candy striper and gift shop employee before attending Providence School of Nursing, where she followed in the footsteps of her mother and sister and became a registered nurse. During her more than 48 years at Providence — including 46 years as an RN in labor and delivery and outpatient surgery — she has touched countless lives with compassion, dedication and care. “I have made many friends and have many great memories,” Coss said.


University Hospital presents Nurse Excellence Awards

During Nurses Week, University Hospital presented several awards to highlight outstanding nurses. The theme was “Out of this World.”

Nurse Excellence Award winners included:

Two team members at University Hospital were presented with DAISY Awards, which celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families and co-workers.

Rachel Gengo, RN, a nurse educator, received the DAISY Nurse Educator Award. Philip Merritt, RN, director of emergency services, received the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.

For more than 20 years, the DAISY Foundation has been recognizing the compassion and skill that nurses bring to their patients every day.
