Eula McClain named Employee of Month for internal medicine

Eula McClain, a care access associate with 15 years of service, has been named the December Employee of the Month for the Department of Internal Medicine. She has displayed unwavering commitment, compassion, and professionalism throughout her tenure. McClain said she was honored and excited to be nominated. One of her favorite parts of her job is hearing callers express their appreciation. Knowing she has helped someone and contributed to making their day better is what motivates her most, which is a true testament to her patient-centered approach and kind spirit.


University Hospital announces Daisy, BEE Award winners

Several employees at University Hospital were recognized recently for their outstanding dedication and performance.

Chanda Honeywood, DNP, RN, house supervisor, received the Nurse Leader Daisy Award for the second quarter. Jacob Oubre, BSN, RN, CCRN, who works in the trauma intensive care unit, was presented with a Daisy Award for the second quarter, while Jordan Ritter, RN, who works in the GI lab, received the Daisy Award for the third quarter. The Daisy Award celebrates and recognizes nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers.

Michelle Gardner, a paramedic in the emergency department, won the BEE Award for the second quarter while Ally Smit, a patient care assistant on the fourth floor, won the BEE Award for the third quarter. The BEE Award honors non-nursing staff who provide outstanding support and compassionate care to patients, families, and fellow staff members.

Carl Brown named MCI’s fourth quarter BEE Award winner

Carl Brown, valet assistant with the Mitchell Cancer Institute’s Fairhope oncology team, was selected as the fourth quarter BEE Award winner for the meaningful impact he makes on patients, visitors, and staff each day. As the first person patients encounter upon arriving at MCI Fairhope, Brown sets the tone for their visit with his positive energy, warm smile, and joyful greeting – often in all kinds of weather. A veteran with a deep sense of service, Brown continues to serve others through his role, helping patients feel confident, hopeful, and welcome in what can be a daunting environment.


MCI Nurse Navigator Lisa Rodgers receives DAISY Award

USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute congratulates Lisa Rodgers, RN, BSN, GI oncology nurse navigator, as its DAISY Award winner. A part of the oncology nurse navigation team, Rodgers is known for her exceptional follow-through and her ability to ensure that no patient concern or detail is overlooked. Her kindness and generosity are evident in every interaction, whether she is stepping in during a busy clinic to support a confused patient or taking the time to mentor and encourage others. Rodgers' commitment to caring for others, celebrating the efforts of her colleagues, and creating moments of calm during difficult times exemplifies the true spirit of the DAISY Award.
