Radiation oncologist joins USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute

Radiation oncologist Joseph Jones, M.D., works with a multidisciplinary team to deliver the most advanced therapies for cancer patients.

USA Health has expanded its oncology care team with the addition of Joseph Jones, M.D., a radiation oncologist who sees patients at the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, the region’s only academic cancer treatment center.

Jones, also an assistant professor of interdisciplinary clinical oncology, will treat a variety of cancers, including breast cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, gynecologic malignancies, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, metastatic cancer, primary central nervous system malignancies, prostate cancer, sarcoma and skin cancer.

“It is my mission to work alongside the team of oncologists at the Mitchell Cancer Institute to deliver innovative solutions for improved cancer outcomes,” Jones said. “Every patient we treat will be given individualized care that is developed by a multidisciplinary team utilizing the latest advancements in cancer therapy.”

Jones received his medical degree and completed a residency in radiation oncology at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine in Birmingham.

Jones holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from Auburn University. He is a co-inventor on four patents related to coating formulations for medical devices.

Among his research interests are quality assurance and continuous improvement in cancer care. He has presented research at annual meetings of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
