The National Cancer Institute estimates that 14,690 children and adolescents up to age 19 were diagnosed with cancer in the United States in 2025, with an estimated 1,650 deaths. Cancer is the leading cause of death from disease among children after infancy.

This year, the child life program purchased the hospital’s first full-time facility dog because of funding from Spirit of Children. This summer, Rainier joined the Mapp Child and Family Life team at Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

The Spiritual Health and Counseling Department is working to strengthen its H2O Wellness Partners program to help employees recognize when a colleague may need help, respond to a potential mental health crisis and connect them with appropriate resources. 

Under the new leadership structure, University Hospital and Providence Hospital will continue to build upon their distinct strengths and roles within USA Health’s broader mission.

The grant is part of the American Cancer Society’s nationwide investment of $9 million that is expected to provide nearly 60,000 eligible patients with an estimated 700,000 transportation and lodging services.
