Haskins named director of clinical compliance and regulatory services at Children’s & Women’s Hospital

Kristopher “Kris” Haskins, MSN, RN, has been named the new director of clinical compliance and regulatory services at Children’s & Women’s Hospital. He brings more than 20 years of nursing experience and a strong record of leading complex, high‑acuity clinical operations within USA Health, the academic health system for the University of South Alabama.

Haskins previously served as nurse manager for the Arnold Luterman Regional Burn Center at University Hospital where he also had responsibility for the Intermediate Care Unit, the Outpatient Burn Wound Clinic and multiple inpatient units through interim management assignments, including critical care, oncology, and telemetry. He has also contributed to systemwide committees dedicated to patient safety, ethics, and value‑based purchasing.
“Kris is an outstanding fit for this role, bringing firsthand experience leading complex, high‑acuity operations, including a decade of managing the Arnold Luterman Regional Burn Center,” said Valerie K. Heinl, MHA, MSN, RN, CNL, NE‑BC, chief nursing officer at Children’s & Women’s Hospital. “He also operationalized and managed the COVID Care Unit during the pandemic. His ability to guide teams through intense challenges with steadiness, clarity, and a commitment to patient safety uniquely positions him to succeed in this role.”

Haskins earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama. In 2022, he received the Alabama State Nurses Association Citation for Excellence Award. During his time working as manager of the burn unit, he helped raise more than $300,000 in charity funds benefitting the burn unit. He is an outspoken advocate for burn prevention and education, visiting elementary, middle, and high schools to share life-saving information with students and faculty. Haskins is also an Advanced Burn Life Support instructor, and has trained healthcare professionals in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi in the stabilization and care of acute burn injuries.
