After reviewing dozens of entries, five bands have been selected as finalists for the inaugural Doc Rock concert hosted by USA Health. The bands selected to perform are Dr. John and the Burning Sensations, The Shotcallers, the Ayers Brothers Band, RL6 and Bearhead.

To take part, at least one member of each band is required to have a connection with USA Health. The musical groups will compete in a “battle of the bands” competition March 31 at Soul Kitchen in Mobile. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite bands, and prizes will be awarded in four categories.

“There is some amazing talent out there, and I can’t wait to see the finalists perform at the live event,” said Kelly McCarron, associate vice president for Medical Affairs at USA Health. “The success of this year’s concert will determine if it’s an annual event, so we hope lots of people will step up as a sponsor or grab their friends and purchase tickets.”

The concert is a new fundraiser to benefit research and critical clinical needs at USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, Children’s & Women’s Hospital and University Hospital. Organizers expect a crowd of 500 to attend the event held at Soul Kitchen, a popular live music venue on Dauphin Street in downtown Mobile.
