In an effort to make life a little less hectic for parents with newborns, a casserole dinner is being sent home with patients who deliver at USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

Mimi Munn, M.D., chair of obstetrics and gynecology at USA Health, and resident physician Raj Paladugu wanted to start the initiative. Leaders at the hospital thought this would be a great opportunity to provide a hot meal so that parents can focus on their baby after leaving the hospital.

“As a new parent, it can be hard to find time to cook, so we wanted to make that easier for them,” said Rachel Garbo, director of patient relations at USA Health. “This also is a way to show our patients we appreciate them using Children’s & Women’s Hospital for an important life event such as the birth of a child.”

Patients will have their choice of meatless lasagna, Alfredo pasta or chicken pot pie that includes four other portions to feed their family.

“We are grateful to serve the community in this way,” Garbo said. “We hope to be a part of the patient’s life even after they leave the hospital and this is our way of showing that to them.”

Children’s & Women’s Hospital delivers more babies annually than any other hospital in Mobile.
