19th annual GO Run raises more than $95,000 for gynecologic cancer research
Community members laced up for a great cause and continued a nearly two-decade tradition of supporting life-changing research for women across the Gulf Coast.

Hosted by USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute and presented by the Catranis Family charitable organization, the 19th annual GO Run was held Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the University of South Alabama campus. More than 800 runners participated in either a 5K race or a 1-mile fun run, while supporters gathered to celebrate survivors, honor loved ones and raise awareness for gynecologic cancer research.
Gynecologic cancer encompasses any cancer that originates from the female reproductive system. The most common types are cervical, ovarian, and uterine cancers, and they require a unique level of care and treatment. The team at Mitchell Cancer Institute, the region’s leading academic cancer and research facility, treats approximately 1,000 cases of gynecologic cancer annually.
Since its founding, the GO Run has raised more than $1 million to support innovative research at MCI, and the 2026 event raised $95,437.98. Every dollar raised remains local, directly helping researchers and physicians advance efforts in prevention, early detection and treatment.
“Support from GO Run has helped accelerate research that is improving how we understand, detect and treat gynecologic cancers,” said Brian Persing, M.D., director of the Mitchell Cancer Institute. “The funds raised through this event stay here in our community, allowing our scientists and clinicians to pursue innovative research and expand access to promising new therapies. We are grateful to everyone who joins us in advancing our mission to improve outcomes for women across the Gulf Coast.”
Following the races, participants enjoyed a post-race celebration featuring sponsor booths, free food and family-friendly activities. Team and race awards recognized outstanding fundraising efforts, team spirit and athletic achievements across multiple divisions and age groups.
Planning is already underway for the 20th annual GO Run, which is scheduled for Sept. 25, 2027.
