The Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology evaluates children for a variety of problems related to hormones.
Hormones are special chemicals made by the body that affect growth, development and metabolism. In our clinic, we have board-certified pediatric endocrinologists with expertise in a wide variety of endocrine disorders, as well as a team of a dedicated nurse practitioner, nurses and dieticians trained in diabetes and endocrinology. We most commonly treat type 1 and type 2 diabetes, short stature, thyroid problems, and disorders of the pituitary gland. We also evaluate bone and calcium metabolism, adrenal gland disorders, as well as puberty and sexual differentiation.
If your child has just been diagnosed with diabetes, we know that can be a scary time in your life. For our diabetics, we offer education classes within 1-2 weeks of discharge from the hospital, weekly phone calls with our nurse educator to monitor blood sugar levels and adjust insulin doses, and 24-hour-a-day access to the nurse and physician by telephone for emergencies. We also offer a 4-hour comprehensive diabetes education class, which is highly recommended for those who want to go on an insulin pump. Please call the front desk to register.
