About Alan Whaley

Alan Whaley, Ph.D., serves as chief operating officer for USA Health. Working in a dyad relationship with Chief Medical Officer Michael Chang, M.D., Whaley works with leadership throughout the health system to plan and develop operational budgets and strategic initiatives that support USA Health’s mission, vision and values with well-balanced clinical, academic and research programs. They also work with the management team and physician leadership to reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve quality goals and objectives, conduct service line planning and achieve efficient and effective utilization of USA Health resources.

Prior to joining USA Health in 2016 as chief strategy officer, Whaley spent 22 years with Infirmary Health System in Mobile, eventually serving as executive vice president and chief strategy officer.

Whaley earned his bachelor of science degree from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky., before earning master’s degrees in healthcare administration and business administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He most recently earned his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of South Alabama.
