A Special lunch and Learn: “Robot Assisted Surgery”
The University of South Alabama Physicians Group Lunch ‘N’ Learn series will feature Dr. Rodney P. Rocconi, professor and gynecologic oncologist with the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute. His lecture is entitled “Robotic Surgery in Gynecologic Oncology” and will take place on Sept. 19, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at the Health Services Building, located on the USA main campus.
Dr. Rocconi utilizes the DaVinci Robot Surgical System to perform numerous procedures for gynecologic malignancies, such as endometrial, cervical, and ovarian cancers. He and his partner, Dr. Michael Finan are the only gynecologic oncologists along the gulf coast certified in robotic surgery. Dr. Rocconi serves as a clinician and a researcher for the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute and has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgical methods and devices.
With robotic-assisted surgery, the surgeon operates from a console a few feet away from the patient, while viewing a three-dimensional image of the laparoscopic operative field. Dr. Rocconi will review the advantages, disadvantages, and technical aspects of robotic-assisted surgery in his lecture.
The lecture and lunch is provided free of charge. Reservations are required. For more information regarding the lecture or to make reservations, please call (251) 470-7770 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
