Primary Focus: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a life-threatening disease characterized by high pulmonary arterial pressure (>25 mmHg), and there are currently no effective treatments. Recently, our lab found that rats genetically lacking the short transient receptor potential channel 4 (TRPC4), a calcium-permeable plasmalemmal channel, exhibit a survival benefit in the Sugen/hypoxia model of PAH. My research focus is directed at elucidating the link between TRPC4-dependent endothelial calcium signaling and survival in PAH.
