Chief Executive Officer Chandler Bramlett sign a memorandum of understanding
that indicates their interest in developing a new strategic health care alliance
designed to strengthen health care and cancer treatment throughout the region.
The University of South Alabama and Infirmary Health System today announced an interest in developing a new strategic health care alliance designed to strengthen health care and cancer treatment throughout the region.
The two largest health care providers in Mobile plan to collaborate to provide innovative cancer treatment and research through the USA Cancer Research Institute. The new Cancer Research Institute will be build adjacent to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital and Mobile Infirmary in midtown.
USA and the Infirmary also will work together to educate doctors, with USA students training at USA and Infirmary hospitals across the region.
Details of the agreement will be worked out over the next several months.
USA President Gordon Moulton said the alliance would move the USA Cancer Research Institute forward at least five years in terms of a built-in patient base and access to patients for research and clinical trials.
“We’re building the Cancer Research Institute for the entire community and the region,” Moulton said. “This alliance will enhance the area’s economy by attracting new patients, performing innovative research and stimulating the development of biomedical and high-technology businesses.”
Chandler Bramlett, president and chief executive officer of Infirmary Health System, said the alliance would improve health care and medical education across the community.
“With so many resources being pulled together, we would be able to offer the community a wider array of services in a shorter time span,” Bramlett said.
