Objective: Familiarize senior students with the types, variability and treatment of clinical problems seen in an urban Emergency Department and LEVEL I Trauma Center.
Description & Responsibilities: Students will work side by side with faculty in the Emergency Department and rotating residents. The students will interview and examine patients and recommend appropriate therapy under the supervision of the attending physician. Coverage is provided on a continuing basis by Attending faculty of the Department of Emergency Medicine. The student will rotate shifts based on the Acting Internship or Ambulatory rotation options. Emphasis is on high quality bedside education and clinical experiences.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated by the Emergency Medicine faculty in the ER during the rotation. Rotation quizzes and a test are given on selected rotations.
Location: U.S.A. Medical Center Emergency Department
Time: 8:00 a.m., First day of rotation. Contact instructions from the Clerkship Director prior to the rotation.
Note: The elective will require 4 weeks full time. Special circumstances requiring split of the rotation will be considered on a case by case basis with written approval required by the course director.
