Elective Rotations

In addition to the same electives that are available to all categorical residents in both programs, Med-Peds residents at USA have the option of taking combined Internal Medicine-Pediatric electives.  As credit is awarded as a half month on both internal medicine and pediatrics, these combined electives must be taken in even numbers (Ie a resident cannot take just 1 or 3, must take 2 or 4).

Some options that are available are:

  1. USA Healthy Lifestyles Center - A clinic based on the pediatric side that focuses on pediatric obesity and management of its comorbities.  Although the patients may be young, their medical issues are decidedly adult in nature.
  2. Combined Med-Peds Subspecialities - Residents spend equal time in both Adult and Pediatric subspeciality clinics and inpatient consult services.  Options include Allergy-Immunology, Endocrinology, Cardiology among others.  If a resident is interested in a combined elective in a subspecialty that is not yet available, one could likely be created.
