Movement Disorders - Chorea

Chorea is a movement disorder characterized by involuntary flowing movements while awake. Patients may be mistaken for being restless and they often incorporate their chorea into purposeful movements. Chorea may be seen in several movement disorders, including Huntington's disease, Sydenham's chorea tardive dyskinesia, and over-treated or late Parkinson Disease.

 

Choreiform hand movements

Chorea of the hands is often described as a "piano playing" movement.

 

Generalized choreiform movements

Marked, generalized chorea in a young woman. Possibly has Huntington's Disease.
