MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama Medical Center has once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals. The reaccreditation award recognizes the Medical Center’s dedication to continuous compliance with Joint Commission standards.
USA’s Medical Center underwent a rigorous unannounced on-site survey in March 2016. A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated the Medical Center for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.
"With Joint Commission accreditation, we continue to make a significant investment in quality care at our hospital,” said Beth Anderson, Medical Center administrator. “Joint Commission accreditation provides a framework to take our organization to the next level and helps us continue to strive daily for the culture of safety and excellence necessary to help people lead longer, better lives.”
The Joint Commission’s hospital standards address important functions regarding the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve health care for the public by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the U.S. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.
The University of South Alabama Medical Center offers patient-centered care to the central Gulf Coast with unique services including Mobile’s only Level I Trauma Center and Regional Burn Center, plus centers of excellence in stroke care and cardiovascular diseases, and a wide range of acute care services.
