MOBILE, Ala. -- Kirk Simm, RHIA, has been promoted to Health System Director for USA Health’s Health Information Management Department. Simm steps into a new position for the department and system as it seeks to streamline and standardize its electronic health records.
Simm has nearly 20 years experience in records management. For the last 17 years, he served as the manager of the Medical Records Department at USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital. He has been with USA Health since 1997.
“Kirk’s experience and knowledge of coding and health information management made him a natural selection for the position,” said Health System Controller Traci Jones. “He is dedicated to the mission of USA Health.”
In his new position, Simm will be spearheading the transition of the disparate electronic medical record systems of Children’s & Women’s Hospital, USA Medical Center, Mitchell Cancer Institute and the USA Physicians Group, into one system. There are now five different electronic medical record systems in use.
Simm developed an affinity for an academic hospital setting at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he received a bachelor of science degree in Health Information Management. After graduating, a position opened up at USA Medical Center in 1997 and he jumped on it.
“I enjoy the academic setting of USA’s health system,” he said. “I’m excited about this new position and figuring out the best way to make the system as efficient as possible while continuing to provide excellent customer service to both medical staff and patients.”
In addition to his regular duties, Simm serves on numerous hospital and USA Health committees.
