The 2016 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Alabama Champion, Delaney Zimlich, and her parents are taking part in a Champion's Ambassador Tour in Washington D.C. with other young representatives from across the U.S.
On Saturday, June 25, Delaney was applauded as she arrived at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
So far, she visited the White House and historic monuments, took part in photo shoots and media interviews, and met Miss America and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy. Delaney also has plans to attend a Washington Nationals baseball game and have lunch on Capitol Hill.
Delaney has been a patient at USA Children's & Women's Hospital in Mobile, Ala., since birth, when she was diagnosed with a severe form of Spina Bifida. She has undergone multiple surgeries, various therapies and other treatments at the hospital in Mobile.
Like this year's champions from other states, Delaney's treatment has been supported in part by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, which exist to raise money for children in need of life-saving treatment, equipment and medicine.
Later this year, Delaney and her parents will continue the Champion's Ambassador Tour by visiting Walt Disney World.
