Every three minutes somewhere in the world a child is diagnosed with cancer. While success rates for treating many childhood cancers have dramatically improved in the last 50 years, there are still miles to go when it comes to adequately funding research.
That’s why the staff at USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital is hosting a Brave the Shave event. The public is invited to attend on Sunday, March 13, beginning at 1 p.m., when more than 50 people, including the parents and other family members of children who have lost their battles with childhood cancer, have their heads shaved to raise awareness about the diseases that often take children too soon.
Just like last year, Star Wars characters and some very popular princesses will also gather in the hospital courtyard for photo opportunities and fun. Refreshments will be available.
This is the second year USA Children's & Women's Hospital is organizing an event where teams will publicly have their heads shaved then doused with colorful powder. The teams already have raised more than $6,000 for St.Baldrick's this month, an organization that helps fund childhood cancer research.
No appointments will be needed to have your head shaved on Sunday. Walk-ups will be welcome during the event that lasts from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the hospital. Make an online donation today!
