Abby Hunter has joined the staff of the Emergency Department at USA Medical Center, the first nurse practitioner named to the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

“I am honored and excited to be the first Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner at University of South Alabama Medical Center,” says Hunter. “My values wholeheartedly align with USA's focus on patient-centered care.”

Hunter completed her specialty clinical hours at Mobile Infirmary’s emergency room and says,  “I enjoyed the fast pace of the ER and the variety of patient care opportunities unique to the ER setting.”

“In the end, it’s all about the patients. The satisfaction and joy that comes from knowing you made a difference in the life of someone when they were suffering makes it worth the sacrifice.”

Says Hunter, “I chose nursing as a career because I derive satisfaction from helping and caring for people. So cliché, but so true! I also enjoy the clinical work and problem solving demands of health care.”

“Providing high quality health care in an ER setting requires a strong team of dedicated professionals,” says Hunter. “There is a sense of camaraderie and a special bond in this department that every member of the staff will corroborate. When great teams synergize, great things happen. I am extremely proud to be a member of this team and look forward to continuing USA's reputation of outstanding patient care.”

A graduate of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, Hunter earned her undergraduate degree in nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi and her master’s at the University of South Alabama.

Before joining the MC staff in February, she worked at Mobile Infirmary as a medical-surgical nurse and as a clinical documentation improvement specialist.

Hunter and her husband, Wes, enjoy their puppy, Hamp.
